How long does it take for an article or book to arrive after I have requested it through Interlibrary Loan?

249 views   |   0 Vote this question as useful.   0 Vote this question as not useful.   |   Last updated on Sep 07, 2017

Each request’s turnaround time depends on the specifics of the article or book.

Articles can usually be expected to arrive within 1 week -- sometimes as soon as within 24 hours, but sometimes as long as two weeks or more, depending on the availability of the item at lending institutions.

A book request may take 3-5 days if it is being shipped within the state of Georgia, but may take longer if it is being shipped from out of state or internationally. Also, if a book is rare, brand new, or otherwise difficult to obtain, it may take up to a month or more to arrive (especially if it has to be shipped from out of the country).

For questions about an ILL Request, please contact the ASU Libraries at 229-430-4805 or 229-317-6766.

What is a Call Number?

230 views   |   0 Vote this question as useful.   0 Vote this question as not useful.   |   Last updated on Sep 07, 2017

The call number represents what the book is about and determines where the book will be located on the library's shelves. Materials in the ASU Libraries are classified using the Library of Congress Classification (LCC).

This system divides all knowledge into twenty-one basic classes, which are identified by letters of the alphabet. Specific topics are further categorized with a combination of letters and numbers. The call number given in the Primo Online Public Access Catalog  book detail screen will match the spine label of the physical book. You may text the call number from the Primo Online Public Access Catalog to your smartphone (or take a picture) to make it easier to locate the appropriate book from the shelves.

For further information see Library of Congress Classification Outline at http://www.loc.gov/catdir/cpso/lcco/ or visit http://www.usg.edu/galileo/skills/unit03/libraries03_04.phtml
